Despite all the challenges that America has faced in recent years, I believe that the nation has the resilience to recover and emerge even stronger. Under both Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump, we have seen policies that have shaped our economy, the cost of living, and our standing in the global arena. We are plagued by problems inside our own country.
Through the recent presidency of Biden, inflation had reached an all-time high of about 5.2% at the time of Aug. 2024. President Trump’s inflation had reached 1.9% during his original presidency, according to Investopedia, it had been one of the lowest since Eisenhower. Trump left a growing economy for Biden to manage.
As President Trump came into office in 2025, with his new policies, tariffs, and taxes, the general cost of living has increased with things such as gas, groceries, and more. In short, a tariff is a tax on imported or exported goods imposed by a government. This can be used to pressure a country so that they can do what someone wants.
He says, “We may have in the short-term, a little pain, and people understand that. But long term, the United States has been ripped off by virtually every country in the world.” According to Reuters.
Under Biden’s presidency, inflation reached 5.2%, causing families to spend an additional $17,000 a year. Under Biden, inflation reached 5.2%, putting a strain on families’ budgets and contributing to financial stress across the nation. The impact was especially evident in everyday expenses, from the price of gas to groceries and more.
The threat posed by illegal aliens and drugs, including the deadly drug Fentanyl, issues a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). With promises from China, Mexico, and Canada to halt illegal immigration and stop drugs from flowing into the US, President Trump is taking some bold actions to hold Mexico, Canada, and China accountable for their promises. As of February 6th, 2025, Trump has currently paused the tariffs on Canada and Mexico while still tariffing China at 10%; China has fought back against this so-called “Trade War” with tariffs of their own, according to CBS News. To put it briefly, a trade war is an economic conflict between countries that Image involves raising tariffs or other trade barriers CNBC had Jared Bernstein on Wednesday morning to warn about the dangers of Trump’s policies’ effects on inflation. Bernstein, who was a top economic adviser under Biden, is warning that Trump’s policies could reignite inflation. Seriously, with how the economy was under Biden, why would anyone listen to him?
Trump won the popular vote for the 2024 Presidential Election by two million. He also won most of the swing states, which greatly helped him win. While I was watching the election, states that were originally blue turned red. Out of the three states in which results were immediately available, Kentucky and Indiana shot up red immediately and continued to be red for the rest of the presidential election.
In America, 29% of workers are not too or not at all satisfied with their pay, the top reason given is that their wages haven’t kept up with increases in the cost of living. This was especially apparent during Biden’s term, when inflation went up 18%, as compared to his predecessor’s 2%. This has made a lot of Americans angry, being able to see this from just walking outside.
Since President Trump has returned to office, he has removed America from the World Health Organization (WHO), with over half of Americans believing that America benefited from it. While some may disagree with Trump’s decision to withdraw from the World Health Organization, his justification is rooted in the financial burden the U.S. faces. With a population of over 340 million, the U.S. is contributing disproportionately to the WHO’s funding compared to countries like China, which has a population over four times as large with a population of 1.4 billion people. While the U.S. contributes significantly to the WHO’s funding, Trump’s decision to withdraw reflects concerns over the financial burden, especially compared to China’s lower contribution. In 2021, Americans overwhelmingly praised the World Health Organization for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump’s mass deportations have garnered mixed reactions, with about 59% of Americans supporting his efforts to tackle illegal immigration. Image Including 39% who strongly approve. The divide is less than other things, but it is still there. Trump, on his first day in office, signed multiple executive orders to fix these problems: the energy crisis, immigrants, drug problems, etc. With time, these will hopefully be fixed because whether choosing to believe everything or not, it is apparent that there is a problem. Some may disagree and say that it will be weak, but the facts are that America has a high rate of drugs, illegal immigration, and inflation.
While America faces numerous challenges, the actions taken by President Trump signal his commitment to regaining control over these issues. Whether or not one agrees with his methods, it is clear that significant changes are underway. America’s future recovery will depend not just on policy, but also on the resilience and determination of its people, who continue to demonstrate strength in the face of adversity. It is this combination of leadership and unity that will guide the nation through its current trials and set it on the path to renewal.
