As mornings get colder, leaves change color, and drinks are brewed hotter, students prepare to celebrate the season of fall. Fall time is a way for students to be able to appreciate and participate in what the season has to offer.
“Our fall traditions are every year on Halloween when my mom makes chili while we go trick or treating, and then, when we get back we trade/sort our candy and eat the chili. Another tradition is that every year we go to Hubers and pick pumpkins,” said freshman Aubrey Samons.
Many traditions that students are involved in are found in local places like Hubers, but there are also many festivals that take place as well as trick or treating during the months of September and October.
“We usually go to Harvest Homecoming because we always have a good time and the food is delicious and I plan to go trick or treating with my younger sisters and cousins. I am not sure what I want to go as but I may go as Young Sheldon,” said freshman Quinn Smith.
With many festivals and events taking place, some students find that fall is the best season to experience. With many changes in the weather and environment, there is also a change in comfort.
“Fall is the best season because it’s very pretty in the fall and with all the leaves falling and the weather is just in the middle, so it’s the perfect weather. The thing I am most excited for is just being able to see all of the leaves falling and being able to sit outside with a blanket and hot chocolate,” said freshmen Aubrey Samons.
Another reason fall is an anticipated time is not only for its weather and atmosphere, but how students are able to express their personal interest while also enjoying interests that are more pertained to the theme of fall.
“I plan to go trick-or-treating with my friends. We are all going as Star Wars characters and I am dressing up as Han Solo, but also during Halloween my favorite movie to watch is Hocus Pocus or Coraline,” sophomore Ryder Greenwell.
Trick or treating is a popular activity that students engage in on Halloween, but there have also been many students who have reflected on the fact that as students get older, they may become indifferent to such activities. However, in recent times students have learned to embrace their participation for the upcoming holiday.
“Halloween was really cool as a kid. Then, we all said it was ‘lame’ because we wanted to be cool. Now it’s cool again when you get to be older, so I’m thinking of dressing up as the sandbag guy from the ‘Nightmare before Christmas’. I absolutely plan to do Halloween because getting to do a lot of the fun format that comes from getting to do the costume and have your idea envisioned,” said senior Bishop Collins.
Fall has many positive aspects, but not everyone finds fall to be the most enjoyable season the year has to offer. During fall, students who have an opposed opinion of the season are still able to find ways to enjoy their time off of school in October.
“I don’t think that fall is the best season because I love summer and swimming in the pool, so I have plans to travel during fall break and we are going to Orlando Florida and we are going to Universal Studios and Discovery Cove,” said freshman Quinn Smith
Some students oppose fall time because of the seasonal challenges fall weather brings and winter arriving after fall ends. Anticipating what is to come in the future may deter students away from fully enjoying the months of October or November.
“No fall is not my favorite season. I really like fall. It’s really pretty, but my allergies are still terrible during fall and spring. I like summer the best just because I can’t do the cold and I can’t deal with the allergies, even though fall is really pretty I still can’t get behind it all the way,” said Collins. “It’s becoming a little dreary near the end because you get to winter and the weather’s weird here because we would get snow in November. I feel like fall is never all the way fall, sometimes it’ll rain during fall and sometimes it’ll snow during fall.”
Despite whether students enjoy fall or not, there is always something that students have to look forward to. Whether it is the time off from school, vacations, Halloween, trick-or-treating, or just having time to spend with friends or family, everyone has the opportunity to have time to relax and relish within the fall months.
