In almost all romance movies, the guy gets the girl and they live happily ever after against all odds. Although it is romantic, the movie magic does not last long off-screen. Oftentimes, these movies blow things out of proportion and create scenarios that are likely to never happen in real life. These movies can create outrageous expectations for relationships. Here is my official take on how just some of these movies would go down in real life (spoilers ahead):
People We Meet on Vacation:
Poppy and Alex take one vacation a year with each other outside of their everyday lives. After years of not seeing each other after Poppy almost ruins Alex’s engagement, they see each other again at a wedding. At this wedding, they both admit feelings for each other and start their true romance as if they have not been giving each other piggy back rides through New Orleans before this. So, first off I’d like to point out that their actual significant others through all of this would never have sat back and let them go alone on a vacation with only the other. This definitely would have ruined some relationships. Also, after years of only seeing each other one week a year, you do not know a person well enough to drop everything to move back to where they are and start a life. What I see happening is them moving in together, realizing normal Alex and normal Poppy are different from their vacation versions, and a breakup happens.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith, both being assassins, are in a six year marriage where both lead secret lives. Even if you are the one keeping secrets, I feel like you would still be suspicious of your spouse keeping secrets, especially after getting married so soon. So, first of all, I don’t think two people with secrets that big would willingly enter into a marriage after a couple of days. Secondly, it is highly unlikely that they are able to keep their secrets from each other for so long with modifications to the house, flying to entirely different cities, and carrying weapons constantly. Instead, I think one of them would have deduced that the other one was keeping secrets in the first six years of their marriage and either taken out the other one or filed for divorce.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Throughout the movie, Andie constantly ragebaits Benjamin for her magazine article to the point that he breaks off their relationship. After Andie completed the “research” for her article, she would have left immediately. That relationship can not have been enjoyable for her, having to act differently all the time. On the other side of things, Benjamin would never have gone back to her after his bet was over. I mean, he was dating a psychopath and even broke up with her before the 10 days were over. Even if they did get together after the bet, the relationship would have ended quickly once Benjamin and Andie both realize the other was only adopting a fake personality for their entire time together.

10 Things I Hate About You
When Kat discovers the bet, made so that Bianca could date, that led to her and Patrick’s relationship, she reads a heartbreaking poem to her class directed at Patrick. To start off, the making of that bet was far too much work to happen in real life. If it did happen, word would have spread fast, as it does, all the way back to Kat. After Kat finds out, no way is she airing out her problems to the school. No, instead, Kat would have put an incredibly sad song on her Instagram note to really get the message across.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
When Laura Jean and Peter get together it is very much a fake relationship for both of their gain. Many times in this fake relationship, Peter and Laura Jean go on dates. In a real relationship of convenience, if those even exist, there is absolutely no reason to come over to each other’s houses for dates. Any and all hangouts would be public and for show. Of course, at some point, it is inevitable that Laura Jean would need some advice and let the secret slip or get a DM from one of Peter’s ex’s friends asking about what is going on between them.
