College football is the best, isn’t it? We’re getting very close to the inaugural 12 team college football playoffs, and here are my predictions for who’s going where.
At the one seed, I have the Big 10 champion, Oregon. They simply dominated all year, and I don’t see them losing to Penn State in Indy next week. At the 2 seed, I have Texas for the SEC. I don’t think they’ll lose to Georgia twice in one year, although stay tuned to see if Georgia sneaks in. At 3, I have SMU, the ACC champion. This one’s really impressive, I totally thought Miami had it in hand all season, but SMU has been just as dominant and actually made it to the conference championship. I think they’ll take care of business against Clemson and then it’s onto the playoffs. At 4 from the Mountain West conference, I have Boise State. They had a remarkable season, losing to Oregon by one in Eugene is incredible, given the type of run Oregon is on. They also have a Heisman candidate in Ashton Jeanty, who has been putting up insane stats all year.
Moving on to the matchups without a bye:
(12) South Carolina vs. (5) Arizona State
With a choke job for the ages from BYU it’s entirely possible, dare I say probable that Arizona State wins the Big 12. South Carolina also has the same record as Alabama, but they didn’t lose to Vanderbilt so I’d say they have a better resumé, and are able to sneak in here.
(9) Ohio State vs. (8) Georgia
Yeah I told you Georgia was going to sneak in here, didn’t I. They only have two losses, but beat both Texas and Tennessee, which still put them up here in the running. Ohio State isn’t going anywhere in the playoffs with Ryan Day, even if he got them there somehow. If he didn’t lose the locker room after the Michigan game, he must have Loki’s silver tongue.
(11) Indiana vs. (6) Notre Dame
Battle for Indiana here (Purdue is watching from the corner crying), and it shapes up to be a good one. Despite Indiana losing to Ohio State, given the way they played against other teams it’s entirely possible they get the upset here, although Notre Dame has been dominant all year (do not ask them what happened September 7th).
(10) Tennessee vs. (7) Penn State
Penn State might be ranked 3rd in the AP poll right now, but I predict losing to Oregon in the Big 10 championship will drop them a little, no matter what the Playoff Committee says. Nevertheless, I think they’ll take down the Vols, especially in Happy Valley.
