The roar of the crowd filled the stands as the Floyd Central boys’ football team took the field in the sectionals. As the pressure builds within all the players, the weight of Evansville North rests on their shoulders. As they headed out on to the field, the team took a moment to plan strategies and pray as a team. Taking their final breaths, the intercom takes over the crowd as they announce FC. The team took the field with a strong mentality. The game continues, and the highlanders come out on top, bringing a sectional win to their name and making unforgettable history.
“I thought it was very special, something we’ve only done four times here ever, and so it’s cool to be a part of that,” said senior quarterback Jack Mull.
The team holds their heads high, knowing they have made history as one of the few FC football teams to win sectionals.
“It’s great knowing that not many teams have come through here and won a sectional,” said junior receiver Luke Jacobi.
Although the team is done playing, they have accomplished a goal they have had for a long time: winning a sectional.
“I think [the current FC football team] was a very special team and now it’s one of the best teams in Floyd Central history, and I think people will still be talking about us for a while,” said Mull.
The word of Floyd Central is spreading all over the state of Indiana. This team has been performing well this season and making its name known.
The team had an exceptionally good year and enjoyed the boys they played with, which helped them be so successful.
“I loved playing with this team. Everybody was always focused, and everybody had a good time, and our chemistry was always on point,” said senior running-back Sebastian Robertson.
It was a special year and a close team. They played well together and had fun with each other.
“I thought we all bonded well with each other and we had all the pieces, and it was a great year,” said Jacobi.
According to the boys, they finished off with a great season, taking home a sectional championship against Evansville North. With the score of the sectional game being 15-10, they played their hearts out, which allowed them a win.
“Winning sectional felt amazing, it was a great team goal we got to for the first time in six years,” said senior linebacker Matt Polk.
The boys were down most of the game; for them to come back and win the game shows how much dedication they have for the sport and their teammates.
“We started preparing nine months ago, that’s when the preparation started in the weight room and on the field, lifting weights, that’s where it all started, lifting weights and practicing hard,” said junior receiver Jaxon Stone.
This was a year filled with hard work and determination which helped the team reach one of their final goals of the season; winning sectionals. The team ended their year making unforgettable history at Floyd Central for all to remember.
